Making Flour Tortillas

The Flour Tortilla

 Ingredients:

  •  3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/3 cup oil neutral flavored

Instructions:

  1.  In a bowl or stand mixer, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add the liquids and mix until a ball forms. Continue mixing for 1 minute.
  3.  Transfer dough to a lightly floured work surface. Divide into 16 equal portions.
  4. Turn each piece to coat with flour. Form each piece into a ball and flatten with the palm of your hand.
  5.  Cover flattened balls of dough with a clean kitchen towel and allow to rest for 15 minutes.
  6.  After the rest period, heat a large pan over medium heat.
  7.  Roll each dough piece into a rough circle, about 6-7 inches in diameter, keep work surface and rolling pin lightly floured. OR roll them into odd shapes why not??
  8.  Don’t stack uncooked tortillas on top of each other or they will stick together. You can use parchment paper or wax paper to separate.
  9.  Put the tortilla on the hot surface cook until bubbles appear about 1-2 minutes then flip to cook the other side.
  10.  Place on top of each other when done cooking to keep them soft.
  11.  Use right away or store for later.
  12. Store in the refrigerator in a zippered bag or container for up to 1 week.
  13. Freezer store for up to 2 months.
